Many legends exist explaining the discovery of felt with tales involving Sumerian kings, classical warriors, and persecuted saints. As far as we know, felt is the oldest form of human-made textile dating back some 3,500 years. In popular culture felt’s identity is more often associated with homogeneous industrial felt used in mechanical and architectural applications. My work intends to explore the beauty of handmade felt textiles using a wide range of natural fibers gathered from sources both local and abroad.
